This is one half of a diptych. The other half is Squirrel Reads (see Squirrel Reads).
Midday. Hawk is perched high in the tree, on a mossy branch, reading.
The book was in the plan. The eyeglasses were not. He asked for them halfway through the painting, and I stopped to ask him: aren't hawks supposed to have perfect vision? He didn't answer. He just wanted them.
I let him have them.
What's the story behind that? I have my guesses. Maybe he has perfect far away vision but need glasses for up-close. Maybe it's a costume. Maybe it's a small joke he's playing on himself and us.
I'll leave that one to you.
The world is quiet up here at midday. 🌷
