Artist Bio

Her heart in Quebec city where her beloved grandparents lived, then uprooted to the country as a child, Evelyne Verret grew up between worlds. Fortunately, she had the chance to spend vacation time with her grandmother, a passionate storyteller who loved to tend her garden and go on adventures. These special moments left a deep imprint. The grandmother she longed for, the stories she carried, the garden she admired, all of it would find its way into her art, decades later.

Later in life, Evelyne came to painting, that weekend changed everything. She trained through the Intentional Creativity method, completed the Voice Accelerator program with the Milan Art Institute, and is completing their Mastery Program. Her work is rooted in storytelling. She began with paintings of women as archetypes, exploring transformation, healing, and liberation.

Evelyne Verret is a French-Canadian magical realism painter working from a river-side studio in upstate New York. Her growing body of work, the Hawk and Squirrel collection, features adventures told by a grandmother to her grandchild, brought to life through Hawk, Squirrel, and a cast of woodland characters. Every painting holds hidden layers that reveal themselves to the collector who looks longer.

Her signature process combines gelato crayons, collage, spray paint, acrylic, and oil, building intuitive layers that let each painting glow from underneath. She paints what she feels before she understands it, following the characters and letting the story arrive as she works.

Evelyne has shown her work in solo and group exhibitions nationally, earned Best in Show at a juried show, and counts collectors across the United States among her audience. She has also taught and shared her practice with other artists. She is developing a body of work toward licensing, printed editions, and juried exhibitions.

Evelyne's work is designed for adults who haven't forgotten how to wonder, women reconnecting with joy, parents building imaginative spaces for their children, grandmothers whose love travels across distance. Her collection currently includes 25 paintings across five thematic sub-series.

Artist Statement

I make magical realism paintings of adventures told by a grandmother to her grandchild, brought to life by two unlikely friends: Hawk and Squirrel. Every canvas holds a story, and often, hidden layers that reveal themselves the longer you look.

Before I touch the canvas, I build the composition on my tablet, layering images and arranging characters until something clicks. Each character is chosen with intention. Every symbol carries a message, an invitation to look inward, a reminder of something you may have forgotten about yourself.

Then I move to the canvas and let go. I paint what I feel before I understand it. The process begins in freedom: spray paint, mark-making, collage, layer over layer, each one leaving traces behind. Oil comes last, pulling everything into warmth and light. The early layers don't disappear, they live beneath the surface, waiting to be found. That's how the paintings hold their hidden truths.

My work is for adults who are remembering how to wonder: women reconnecting with joy, parents building imaginative spaces for their children, grandmothers whose love travels across distance. Each painting offers a doorway back to a state most of us set down when we were young.

I want my work to reach the part of you that is still curious, still playful, still willing to believe in magic. I imagine you standing in front of a painting and smiling. I imagine your children wondering aloud about the story. I want you to come back and find something you missed.
