This is Cloudsong, from my Musical Series.
Hawk is at the harp. Squirrel is at the cello. They're not in a garden this time, or, they are, but the garden has become clouds. The music has taken over the setting.
I went to a few cello sound baths. I laid there while the notes moved into my body, vibrations traveling under my ribs, through my hips, into my hands. I just felt the music become part of me.
That's what this painting is. That's why the clouds are pink and blue and dissolving. That's why the flowers are almost floating. That's why you can't tell if it's the sky or the ground. Because when music does what music does, the ground stops mattering.
Look closely at the lower left. Two tiny figures are sitting on a cloud, hand in hand. Grandmother is telling the story to her granddaughter. They’re here too. They’re always here.
Under the paint, as always in this series, real sheet music is collaged into the canvas. You can't see it. But you might hear it, if you let yourself listen with your whole body. 🌷
